Final image - Dandelion Run

Below is the dandelion photo i created for my series of final images. I will then discuss how i got to that stage and what developments i made along the process.

When i first created the idea for this image i took the below experimentation shots. Luckily i found some dandilionst that where already in a stairway path so i didnt have to do a lot of editng, and it would look a lot more realistic. However, some i just got clear focused images of the head of the dandelion, and also when the dandilion was being blown out as i wanted some of the dandilons to be blown out once they had been stepped on. I also had to consider other alternative backgrounds if i wasnt to use a shot where it already had a dandilion in. This is where i took images at ground leven and got images of grass close up with flowers spurting out. I felt this owuld set the scene of the image and make it a lot more aesthetically pelasing due to the colours of the flowers.

First Image

The first image i created was from a set of naturally alligned dandelions with my model posed across the top of them. This image was extremely realistic as the only photoshop i had done was the addition of the sharpen tool to add more texture in the dandelion heads. However, it didnt look as magical as Joel Robisons do, and it looked quiet dull. The image of the model i used was also taken in the studio amoungst artificial light, which was hard to contrast down to get it so the model blended with the environment he was in. As this wasnt as sucsesfull as i imagined my images too look, i experimented with another image that required more photoshop, but would have added a lot more attention to the dandilions as well as the model without the sharpen tool.

Second Image

For this image i went with a closer up shot of the dandelions as i felt it had all the focus and attention i wanted where as with my previous attempt there was a lot of background and other objects that would idvert the attention away. For the actual image here, the only real dandilion in the image is the last one in the chain before it breaks to the one a little further away. So that all of the where the same i copied and pasted them and put them at the correct hights to add a stairway effect. To make sure that they werent obviously fake, i copied and pasted the actual backround layer where the grass was which the dandelion would lay over. I then used the polygonal lasso tool to cut around each bit of grass. Then layering the layers over each other in the correct manner it made the dandelions have grass over them so they all looked real. The two dandelions on the end where from different images that i had previously taken, and covered the stems with the same ones originally used in this image. This is because the otehres where lighter and looked extremely obvious they werent natural compared to all the rest. The last image was simply added in and rubbed around so that it fitted in with the grass on the floor. This isnt how i wanted it but i couldnt add the blowing out dandelions as i didnt have a strong enough image to use. I still feel this image of the dandelion is just as effective as you can still see all the remenance in create focus on the floor. I used the polygonal lasso tool to go around some of tehse and put them at the side of the last one which has nothing on it. This gives a sense of movement as it looks like there the last ones that are just being blown away. The model in this image was again one that was taken in the studio, but i feel that after the contrasting and brightness altercations. However the problem with this image is the positioning of the model as he isnt directly side on to the audience. To improve this i will take some more images of my model outside so that i can use a variety of different positions and see which one looks best.

Final Selection

Below are the different positions i took of my model replacing the old one from the previous image. I feel these look a lot better as they suit the movement i wanted the image to have from the blowing away dandelion at the end. The movement makes you imagine the speed he is traveling at as well as the texture it would be like when he firmly lands in each image. Out of the two i feel the first is more effective as it shows a different pose that isn't used in all the other images and allows the viewer to consider whether they are running from something, trying to slow down or loosing control when they are running. It allows more imagination to be fueled and more interaction with the audience.
